Evan Gillespie is the director of the Sierra Club’s My Generation campaign and a Sungevity customer since 2016.

With My Generation, Evan focuses his days on transitioning California to 100% clean energy. Now, his rooftop solar panels from Sungevity are putting his home to work toward the same goal.

Why go solar? One motivator, Evan explains, was the sting of last summer’s high electricity bills. “Last summer was really hot. We ran our air conditioning a lot and our bill was pretty significant.” With a young son and an even younger daughter at home, it came down to keeping the kids comfortable or “paying through the nose for electricity.”

Protecting the environment for his kids and future generations was another. “We’re the first generation to feel the impacts of climate change and we’re the last generation who can do something about it. I don’t want my kids to look back and think we didn’t try to do everything we can.”

California is at a “turning point”

Evan isn’t the only one in his community going solar. “California is really at this turning point for the transition to 100% clean energy. Probably 4 or 5 of our neighbors have gone solar, so we’re seeing it in our community and we’re seeing it across California.”

After his positive experience going solar, Evan has a message for those also considering the switch: “Just do it. We’re never going to look back.”
