mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;}Sungevity’s co-founder and solar superhero Danny Kennedy is taking on an important new role in the clean energy industry: Managing Director of California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF).
The non-profit CalCEF started as an evergreen fund and has since grown into an institution that uses investment, policy and mentorship to help clean energy businesses grow and innovate. As Managing Director, Danny will lead CalCEF’s three organizations – Innovations, Ventures and Catalyst.
“I’m excited to take on this challenge,” said Danny. “We are not just replacing dirty fuels and combating climate change, we are building a new global economy where clean energy is affordable and accessible to everyone.”
Since co-founding Sungevity in 2007 with Andrew Birch and Alec Guettel, Danny’s love for orange and vision to bring solar power to the people have been key to Sungevity’s success. Among his accomplishments is launching Sungevity.org, a program that partners Sungevity with non-profits to share solar with their networks and raise funds to support their valuable work. Since its inception, Sungevity.org has raised over $1.5 million for non-profits like Sierra Club.
Beyond Sungevity, Danny is an internationally acclaimed opinion leader on climate and energy issues. Danny’s passion for the ‘Rooftop Revolution,’ the title of his 2012 book, also led him to co-found SfunCube, the world’s first solar incubator and accelerator. He was a founding Board member of the solar finance company, Mosaic, and has been recognized by PBS as “Innovator of the Year” and by Rolling Stone as a “Solar Maverick” along with Andrew Birch.
Don’t worry, Danny assures us, this doesn’t mean goodbye to Sungevity. Officially, he will continue on as a strategic advisor to the business for six months. Unofficially, Danny said, “I am always going to be a part of Sungevity.”
“When I told my kids about starting at CalCEF, the first question they asked was, ‘What are you going to do about your wardrobe?’ Orange is always a color I’m going to wear with pride.”
Congratulations, Danny, and shine on!
