Sungevity was thrilled last week when the City of Oakland greenlighted $250,000 for the Oakland Green Jobs Corps. This is an exciting partnership that unites some of the best education and training programs in Oakland to get young urban Americans job-ready for work in the clean energy industries. As a member of the Oakland Green Employer Council we hope to get some apprentices on the roof soon!
One of the sweetest parts about this story is that the money earmarked to pay for this green workforce development is from the legal settlement with energy companies involved in gouging Californian consumers back in 2001.

We expect that this kind of program will become more and more popular in coming months in which green jobs will become a priority. Our friends at Green For All and 1Sky have seen the signs and called for a National Day of Action for Green Jobs Now on 9.27.08.

Watch this space for more info on how Sungevity is helping to create Green Jobs Now!
